How To Start ABA Therapy

Knowing how to start ABA therapy for the first time can be challenging, especially if you're new to autism treatment. Every child with autism has a unique ASD (autism spectrum disorder) treatment plan, which should be assessed by a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) to create a personalized approach for the family and child.

ABA therapy is the most effective treatment to teach children with autism how to learn, communicate, and socialize appropriately. Let us walk you through how to start ABA therapy and what you can expect from the therapy program.

Starting ABA Therapy in 5 Steps

#1

SUBMIT INTAKE

DOCUMENTS

Submit these three required documents to start the intake process:

1 - Completed HANDS Application

2 - Autism Diagnostic Report

3 - Insurance Card

#2

ACQUIRE

AUTHORIZATION

After all three documents have been submitted, we will work with your insurance to verify benefits and request authorization for coverage. We start with authorization for the initial assessment at HANDS.

#3

DETERMINE CLINICAL

TREATMENT PLAN

After scheduling and conducting the initial assessment, our clinical team creates an individualized treatment plan that includes the recommended number of ABA treatment hours per week, treatment methodology, program goals, and other therapeutic considerations.

TREATMENT

We match the recommendation up with our available services, train paired staff on the individual treatment plan, and start services at a date agreed upon by HANDS and client family.

#5

START SERVICES

We start treatment and plan for parent training, which usually takes place twice a month. We also give you a daily progress report at the end of every treatment session.
